An experimental strategy game project with team collaboration on the development. Through strategies of resource collecting and management to survive the game.

 

Strategy Game

FOR SURVIVE

 

For Survive is a turn-based strategy game developed by our team over a four to six weeks period. Players must strategically manage resources and make critical decisions to minimize losses caused by random disasters occurring each round. Unlike traditional games focused on defeating enemies, the primary objective is to survive for a specified number of days. Survival is accomplished through the growth and development of the player's civilization while defending against various disasters that challenge them throughout the gameplay.

As the lead designer, I conceptualized and developed the core ideas and themes for this game. I refined the rules and gameplay through multiple rounds of paper prototyping and playtesting. I also pitched this design concept during WPI's IMGD5000 course to recruit a development team. My pitch received the highest number of votes of interest in joining from classmates, out of 25 proposed concepts.

One of the primary challenges of the For Survive project was effectively managing communication and coordination among team members to complete development within the allocated four weeks. As the producer, I divided the development process into smaller, manageable phases, each with clearly defined tasks. For each task, I assigned a lead team member supported by an assistant and a reviewer. This structure ensured that every member served as both the lead for their assigned tasks and the assistant or the reviewer for another, fostering collaboration across the team.
